  1. Power Conservation is a control strip module which allows you to change the PowerBook's power saving settings.  It is similar to Apple's Power Settings module, except that the slider at the bottom of the module reflects the setting of the PowerBook control panel's slider.  To use it, drop it in the Control Strip Modules folder inside the system folder and restart.

  3. FEATURES:
  4. ･ The slider on the module shows the current power conservation settings, similar to the PowerBook control panel's slider.
  5. ･ Normal options:
  6.    - Show Hard Disk Status: ﾊ
  7.      sets whether to display in the icon the status of the hard disk.
  8.    - Spin Down Hard Disk: spins down the hard disk.
  9.    - Better Conservation: ﾊ
  10.      sets screen dim and hard disk spin down to 1 minute, and system sleep to 2 minutes.
  11.    - Better Performance:ﾊ
  12.      sets screen dim to 5 minutes, hard disk spin down to 8 minute, and system sleep to 15 minutes.
  13.    - Best Performance:ﾊ
  14.      sets screen dim, hard disk spin down, and system sleep to never.

  16. ･ Special options by control-clicking on the module:
  17.    - Dim/Spin Down in 15, Sleep in 30: sets screen dim and hard disk spin down to 15 minutes, and system sleep to 30 minutes.
  18.    - Dim/Spin Down in 30, Sleep in 45: sets screen dim and hard disk spin down to 30 minutes, and system sleep to 45 minutes.
  19.    - All Sliders to 1 Hour: sets screen dim, hard disk spin down, and system sleep to 1 hour.
  20.    - All Sliders to Never: sets screen dim, hard disk spin down, and system sleep to never.
  21.    - Allow Processor Cycling: toggles processor cycling.

  27. LIMITATIONS:
  28. ･ Doesn't work on older systems without the Power Manager Dispatch (I believe system 7.1 or earlier).
  29. ･ On the 100s & 200s series, the module cannot set the dimming timeout.
  30. ･ If the PowerBook control panel is opened, using the module to change the settings doesn't cause the control panel to update.
  31. ･ Since the PowerBook control panel has its own preference file, settings set by the module don't get saved across restart.  Unlike the above problems, this one is also a problem in Apple's Power Settings module.
